Who has HCV?

figure one carefully. Patients aged 40-49 have the highest prevalence. This data including ages was

collected between 1999 and 2002, so in 2007 those patients are now about 45 to 54 years old. 

About 6% of white nonhispanic males 40-49 y/o were HCV positive 

About 13% of nonhispanic black males 40-49 y/o were HCV positive.

About 6% of nonhispanic black females 40-49 y/o were HCV positive.

About half of all persons who ever injected drugs were HCV positive.

This study did not include the approximately 2 million incarcerated persons; About 23% of male prisoners are

HCV positive.

This study did not include the approximately 600,000 homeless persons; about 40% of homeless are HCV

positive.

There are millions of Americans infected with HCV and the largest group are male baby boomers.
